Wheeler's Raid was a campaign by Confederate cavalry under the command of General Joseph Wheeler during the American Civil War. It took place in the summer of 1864 in Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee, and was designed to disrupt Union supply lines and divert attention away from Confederate forces under siege in Atlanta. Wheeler led his troops on a series of raids and skirmishes, attacking supply depots, railroads, and Union forces wherever possible. Despite some early successes, the raid ultimately failed to achieve its goals and did little to affect the outcome of the war. Nevertheless, Wheeler became known as one of the most effective Confederate cavalry leaders and his raids inspired fear and uncertainty among Union forces.
